F1 Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia 2026: Your Guide to the Sepang Race Weekend
Formula 1 is returning to Malaysia in 2026 but with a unique twist.
From 2–4 October 2026, Sepang International Circuit will host the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia 2026.
It marks Formula 1's return to Sepang for the first time since 2017 and gives fans another chance to experience F1 at one of Malaysia's most recognizable motorsport venues.
What Is the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia?
The Bahrain Grand Prix was originally scheduled to take place at Bahrain International Circuit in April 2026. However, the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix did not take place in April following an assessment of the situation in the Middle East.
Formula 1 and the FIA later confirmed that Malaysia would host the Bahrain round at Sepang International Circuit from 2–4 October 2026.
The official event name is: Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia 2026
So, while the race takes place in Malaysia, it remains the Bahrain Grand Prix as part of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship.

Where Is Sepang International Circuit?

Visitors can choose to stay around:
- Sepang
- KLIA
- Putrajaya / Cyberjaya
- Kuala Lumpur
Where you stay will depend on whether you prioritize easier access to the circuit or want to spend more time exploring Kuala Lumpur and surrounding destinations.
Why Is the 2026 Race Special?
Malaysia previously hosted Formula 1 at Sepang from 1999 to 2017. The 2026 event therefore brings F1 racing back to the circuit after almost a decade. But this isn't simply a return of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Malaysia is hosting the Bahrain Grand Prix, making the event a unique addition to the 2026 championship calendar. Sepang itself is a 5.543 km circuit known for long straights, heavy braking zones, fast corners and unpredictable tropical weather.
For long-time Malaysian F1 fans, it's a return to a familiar circuit. For younger and international fans, it may be their first opportunity to experience Formula 1 at Sepang.
What Should You Prepare Before the F1 Trip?
Going to an F1 in weekend requires a little planning beyond buying your ticket.
Tickets:
Purchase your race tickets through authorized channels and check which grandstand or admission area your ticket covers.
