Malaysia Passport Rises to No. 2 in Passport Index Global Ranking 2026

Malaysia's passport has climbed to No. 2 in the 2026 Passport Index Global Passport Power Rank, sharing the position with Singapore.

Malaysia Reaches No. 2

The current 2026 Passport Index Global Passport Power Rank places:

Rank Country Mobility Score
1 United Arab Emirates 182
2 Malaysia 175
2 Singapore 175
3 Spain 174

Malaysia and Singapore therefore share second place based on their overall Mobility Score.

Where Can Malaysians Travel?

Malaysia's Mobility Score of 175 is made up of several different types of travel access.

Access Destinations
Visa-free 121
Visa on arrival 46
eTA 8
Visa required 23

A Mobility Score of 175 does not mean all 175 destinations are completely visa-free.

Instead:

121 Visa-Free + 46 Visa On Arrival + 8 Eta = Mobility Score 175

Each type of access has different requirements, so travellers should check the latest entry rules for their destination before travelling.

What Does the Ranking Mean for Malaysian Travellers?

A strong passport can make international travel more convenient because many destinations do not require Malaysians to obtain a traditional visa before departure.

This can make planning easier for:

  • Holidays
  • Business trips
  • Family travel
  • Regional getaways
  • Short or last-minute trips

However, having visa-free or simplified access does not guarantee entry. Travellers may still need to meet requirements involving passport validity, permitted length of stay, arrival declarations, return tickets or other immigration conditions.

Malaysia and Singapore Share Second Place

Malaysia's position is particularly notable within Southeast Asia. Both Malaysia and Singapore have a Mobility Score of 175 in the current Global Passport Power Rank.

However, their individual access arrangements are not identical. This means two passports can receive the same overall Mobility Score while having different visa-free, visa-on-arrival or electronic travel requirements for particular destinations.

Not Every Passport Ranking Is the Same

One important detail is that the Passport Index is not the only international passport ranking. Different indexes use different methodologies and can therefore give Malaysia different positions.

The No. 2 ranking discussed here specifically refers to the:

Passport Index : Global Passport Power Rank 2026

So when comparing passport rankings, always check which index is being referenced rather than assuming every global ranking places Malaysia in the same position.

Before Travelling Overseas

Even with a highly ranked passport, always check the latest requirements for your destination.

Before departure, confirm:

Passport Validity → Visa Status → Entry Form → Length of Stay → Return/Onward Travel → Lates Immigration Rules

Entry requirements can change independently of passport rankings.

A Strong Passport, More Places to Discover

Malaysia's No. 2 position in the Passport Index Global Passport Power Rank highlights the international mobility available to Malaysian travellers. With a Mobility Score of 175, Malaysians have access to a wide range of destinations through visa-free entry, visa on arrival or eTA arrangements.

But whether the journey takes you overseas or somewhere closer to home, good travel still begins with checking the requirements and planning ahead.

One passport. More possibilities. Where will your next journey take you?
